Holding its flower in the Lover’s grip, Nigella Damascena, the stark blue “Love-In-A-Mist” blossom, is named after the Syrian city of Damascus. Found across Northern Africa, Europe, and Asia it is a symbol for unrequited love. Though often associated with rejection, some cultures interpret the flower to represent great sacrifice such as the life of Saint Catherine the martyr of Alexandria.
